Hey. I’m and RBT in the process becoming a BA. In sessions, we are suppose to make it fun for the children it’s call naturalist teaching. In ABA we run different targets and focus on socially significant behaviors. As an RBT I don’t believe in masking bc kids do things to help sooth or regulate there emotions. Your son is high functioning so I’m assuming he doesn’t get a lot of hours such as 40 hours a week.
Hello! They recommended 15 hours/week for him. He would have to leave school early 3 days every week to attend.
@@LKRealityTV that sounds about right for children who’s high functioning. I’m also assuming they working more on social skills? Along with the VBMAPP goals/targets? Also remember you do have input in your sons program. If you feel that what they are working on is not important voice your thoughts. I do know that in the program BA would try to target behaviors such as handflapping, rocking etc the stereotype behaviors which should not be targeted as something to work on bc that apart of them and how they regulate. I know you mention about masking behaviors, that is try ABA depending on the BA do try to find replacement for behaviors but behaviors do not need to be mask. Behaviors that BA try to mask is behaviors that can disruptive or harmful to self such as SIB(self injurious behaviors).

High functioning is just describing his ability to function.. People get wrapped up with all these terminologies that have changed throughout the years. My son was diagnosed with Aspergers years ago he is now 25. They don't use that terminology much anymore for high functioning..ABA and anything they offer to him take it. My son has been driving since he was 18 and he is in his second year at our local Jr. College.There is hope!!!.
❤❤❤ I think at first they play and then move toward certain goals. I've heard all these things too though. I don't know where I stand either.
